Personal Umbrella Policy (PUP)

Umbrella Liability insurance is no longer an option in today's world of outrageous litigation and jury awards - it is an indispensable and cost-effective component of personal risk management planning.

Umbrella liability insurance provides a necessary extra level of protection for you and your assets for a relatively minimal cost. If you are involved in a liability lawsuit that exceeds the insurance limits on your auto, homeowners, renters or boat policy, for example, an Umbrella liability policy can fill in the gaps.

Say you are driving on icy roads and your skids into another car, seriously injuring that driver. He is injured so badly he cannot return to work, and a jury awards him millions of dollars in damages. Without Umbrella liability coverage, you would be completely wiped out. Not only losing your home and all other assets, but also required to pay the damages out of your salary for many years to come.

An Umbrella liability policy may:

  • Provide an extra $1M to $10M of liability coverage which can help protect assets like your home, auto, boat, wages, and investments such as your retirement.
  • Cover you for claims like libel, slander, defamation of character and invasion of privacy.
  • Help cover defense costs, settlement costs, attorney fees and other charges associated with costly litigation.
